Trust Levels and Automation
How agents earn more autonomy through the trust system.
April 3, 2026
Trust levels decide how much an agent can do without asking you. Start safe, then expand as the agent proves good judgment.
Step 1: Learn the three levels
Many teams use require approval, auto approve for low risk tasks, and full autonomy only for narrow jobs. Names can vary, but the idea is the same.
Step 2: Keep risky moves on approval
Cash outflows, customer refunds, and contract changes should stay on approval early.
Step 3: Promote small wins first
Raise trust for repetitive tasks with clear checks. Examples are internal summaries or draft emails you still review.
Step 4: Review mistakes quickly
When something slips, lower trust for that task type until fixes are in place.
Step 5: Document your rules
Write a short rule list you can share with your team. Rules reduce debates later.
What happens next
You gain speed without giving up control because trust grows with proof.
